Noni Lee Studio
Hey, it's me Noni Lee !
Step into the captivating world of me, I merged my diverse life experiences and my passion for art to craft timeless and attention-grabbing jewelry.
Half Korean and Indonesian and raised in the vibrant tapestry of Indonesia, my early years were a mosaic of cultures and inspirations. After studying accounting at university, I realized that my true calling lay in the world of artistic expression. While living in Jakarta and Bali, I honed my skills at the renowned Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe workshop, specializing in the intricate art of golsmithing.
Emboldened by that experience from just a hobby, I decided to take my craft to the United States. Determined to make jewelry as life's work, and I love it. So, I sought further refinement of my skills. This pursuit led me to JewelryClassDC, a prestigious goldsmithing school in Washington D.C. Then I studied micro stone setting at the Accademia delle Arti Orafe in Rome, Italy. There, I delved into goldsmithing and pushed the boundaries of my creativity.
My jewelry pieces are not mere accessories; they are modern works of art. Each piece crafted by me reflects my unique perspective, combining the precision of geometry and different finishes, texture, and materials can create interesting contrasts, also making the jewelry more visually appealing.
Craftsmanship
What does it mean for something to be handmade?
The old-world mentality was one of a craftsman working on a single jewel, sometimes for weeks, with their passion and experience handed down to them through centuries of knowledge and tradition. All that to make a jewel of quality even more precious and beautiful.
In this modern world, the "business" has changed, where mass production has become overly common. This means that quality, which by its nature requires time and skill has been marginalized in favor of speed, ease and quantity. This evolution and change had a drastic affect on the quality of the jewelry produced.
To me, handmade is direct crafting of metal for a piece of jewelry does not involve the use of wax, molds, casting or digital files in a CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing). Once a design is formed in my (and your!) mind, I’ll be melting the gold or platinum to then press it, bend it, forge or pull it into different parts that comprise a truly unique piece of jewelry.
A jewelry design process may incorporate several wires, tubes or plates that are then assembled to create the finished jewel. Because the parts that comprise a piece of jewelry are created individually prior to assembly, metal surfaces of each part can be cleaned to a mirror finish. The very light imperfections that may remain add to the piece’s character.
While the term "handmade" has become a cliche and a marketing tool, that’s not the case with me as my jewelry are truly a one of a kind creations, made without using molds or machines to guide or replicate my work. Every part, from the shank to the smallest chain, bezel or prongs of a jewelry are done by hand.
Sustainbility
Carefully sourced materials
The collection is made using ethical source or recycled yellow gold and silver.
Gems
I do my uttermost best to know where the gemstones are from, frequently sourcing my stones from artisanal and small scale mining operations. This means the environmental impact of mining is significantly reduced, since most gems are mined by hand.
My standards for quality and ethics, led me to work with likeminded gem cutter and dealers based in Singapore, The Netherlands and The United States.
Last but not least, the jewelry boxes are made by myself. The delivery boxes that arrive at your door have been made out of recycled paper in the Washington D.C.
Made-to-measure
Producing timeless and wearable items that are made-to-measure means the jewelry made and finished specifically for you.
